Where and what is Crown Point?

It is the name for the crossroads at the centre of Denton, probably named after the British Victory in North America in 1759.

Why is Haughton Green so called?

Originally there were two towns side by side, Denton and Haughton, until they joined in 1894. There were Haughton, Haughton Dale,Lower Haughton and Haughton Green.Haughton was the area around St. Anne's Church.

Where was 'the City'?

This was an area on Town Lane near St. Lawrence's Church and was the original part of the town.

Why is St. Lawrence's Church called 'th'owd peg'?

Either because the building and roof were held in place by wooden pegs or because one sexton's wife was called Peg or because a bell in the church was so called.

Why is Haughton Hall Road so called?

Because it once led to Haughton Hall, an early building, which is now covered by a housing estate but its lodgestill remains on Hyde Road as a stone built shop.

Where were the Nottingham Castle and the Old Pondicherry?

They were the former names of the pubs, the Toll Point and the Masons' Arms.
The latter was named after a victory by the British in the East Indies.
