Why is St. Lawrence's Church called 'th'owd peg'?Either because the building and roof were held in place by wooden pegs or because one sexton's wife was called Peg or because a bell in the church was so called.
Why is Haughton Hall Road so called?Because it once led to Haughton Hall, an early building, which is now covered by a housing estate but its lodgestill remains on Hyde Road as a stone built shop.
